The Edward and Alice Cottam Charities
Edward Isaac Cottam Charity – Registered No. 223936
Alice Cottam Charity – Registered No. 223935
The Edward and Alice Cottam Charities were created following the trusts which were left in the Wills of Edward Isaac Cottam dated 16th February 1940 and that of his sister Alice Cottam whose Will was dated 23rd March 1942. They both
resided at “Thornfield” Caton.
It was their wish that the trust funds which they left in their Wills would be used by residents to apply for grants as follows :-
“poor and deserving persons aged 50 years or over who have resided within the parish of Caton with Littledale in the County of Lancaster for at least 5 years and are still resident at the date of applying for the grant”
Edward and Alice each left a permanent endowment which is invested to produce an income. The Trustees use their discretion to distribute this income (and any income that has been accumulated over the many years that the trusts have existed) to residents and charitable organisations within the Parish.
Applications are considered annually and the Trustees welcome applications for funds from anyone who considers that they fulfil the above criteria (taken from the wording in the Wills of the late Edward and Alice Cottam) and also any
organisations where the majority of its members fulfil the criteria.
Applications must be submitted by the last day of April each year.
