Weddings
A church wedding at St Paul’s is a wonderful way to celebrate your big day.
The marriage service is a public declaration of love and commitment between a man and a woman. If you choose to get married in church, you are connecting with centuries of tradition, as well as seeking God’s blessing as you enter into this new stage of your life together. Our old church building provides the perfect setting, with a service combining the old and the contemporary.
Can I get married in church?
You don’t have to be baptised or a regular churchgoer to have a church wedding. If you live in the parish or are a member of our church (on the electoral roll) you can be married here. If you can show you have a connection with the church you may also be able to be married here, which we will be very happy to discuss this with you. Also, if one or both of you is a national from a country outside of the European Economic Area, or if one or both of you have been married before, then you would need to discuss these circumstances with our Vicar, who will be able to advise you on a way forward. The Rev Helen Scamman, our vicar, is very happy to meet with you about a possible wedding, even if you aren’t quite sure whether you want a church wedding or not.
